Slow Sunday Stitching - November 19, 2023

I finished up the November section of the Birdhouses SAL on Tuesday last week.  And ever since then, I've been laser focused on the Sugar Skull.

Just the bone on the upper curve of the skull (above the pink swirls) and the eyes left to go.   It's hit that tipping point where I want to push for a finish, but there's probably at least 30 hours yet to put into it since the eyes are so large.  So I'm going to be adult about it and switch to the Plaza workbag on Monday.  Next check in when I get all the bone done.   Since I missed the Day of the Dead this year, there's no hurry on it and I'm sure my framers would appreciate not having to work it into the queue during the Christmas rush.

Between Alexis and Carl's meets recently, I did get quite a bit done on the charity hat.   About 1.5 inches / 3.8 cm until I can start the crown decreases.  Used up the two small leftovers and one of the larger leftovers.  Hope the second larger leftover has enough for the rest of the hat.   There's no concern on the blue yarn; I have an entire cone!  It's a fuzzy mohair lace weight from my dad's machine knitting and weaving stash.

I picked up my sewing machine from the repair man yesterday afternoon, but haven't even unpacked it yet.   He fixed the electrical cord where the plug had gotten damaged to the point of being unsafe and also did a general clean, oil, tune up.   I can tell you those old iron Singers are beasts!  Last time this machine needed service was before COVID!  And they weigh a ton; getting it up all the front stairs (there are seven) was an exercise in proper lifting technique from one tread to the next!   It's a Singer model 99, so it's not even one of the full sized ones!

Does this mean I'll be quilting today?  Possible but doubtful.  I have to fold all the clean laundry that's taken over the dining room table first😆.   Linking up with the SSS crew for inspiration and accountability.

  2. This skull is very colourful! How big is it? Those old machine are heavy but they are workhorses! Gail at the Cozy Quilter
