Lots of needlework progress this week!
First of all, I finished the ten hours on the Sewing Bag - the changeover post is here. The center and basin edge of the fountain will be filled in with satin stitch and I got a good start on the center.
I promised a photo of the Sugar Skull when there was something interesting to look at. Here's a minor milestone - the left half of the jaw is done with the first color sneaking in. I debated if I was going to fill in the color bits as I went or leave them to the end. I know myself well enough that I'm going to need something to break up the hundreds and hundreds of bone-beige stitches. So the plan is to finish all the bone in an small section and then fill in just the color areas that it surrounds.
I also had some virtual meeting times this week where I was not on camera, so I worked a bit on the Canine Santa ornament, during the 'listening only' part of the meetings. Upper torso, face, and hat are done; next up will be the pup that he is holding. I only did that bit of the big brown dog because I had a needle's worth of dark brown floss to use up (used for Santa's eye color first). This is turning out to be a great travel/desk project since I don't need magnification for it due to it being on perforated paper.
Last but certainly not least is the start of Slot #3 (Modern) in the rotation. I'm working on the next to the last of the Victoria Sampler Christmas ornaments / quilt blocks. I had gotten the floss and beads sorted and the fabric on the scroll rods during the last rotation, so I dove right in. I designed an easy border to square off the corners since all the other blocks are squares. I will also rechart the lettering in the upper right to be "Noel" instead of "Love". The rest of it is fine as charted; it's going to be fun because it's basically a miniature band sampler. And I love that style of sampler so much.
I'm linking up with the SSS crew (here's the current roundup).
Lots of pretty cross stitching to see. The skull is very cool. I'm looking forward to seeing the addition of the colour bits as you go.
ReplyDeleteI would have to stitch while listening in a meeting too or I might nod off!!! Great projects underway. That skull is going to be a long term project. Fun to see the colours being added. Gail at the Cozy Quilter
