Good morning, Slow Sunday Stitchers!
I have a finish to report this week!! I got my Victoria Sampler "Four Elements: Fire" band sampler done in the wee small hours this morning. Ever get the point in a project where it is SO CLOSE to being finished that you just can't put it down? Yeah, that was me around midnight.
A photo doesn't capture all the glitter of the gold and other metallic threads and beading in this piece. It is amazing. And was fun to do. Total time was right around 19.5 hours. Considering the amount of cutwork, beading and specialty stitching in this little piece, that's not too bad.
I'm looking forward to doing another one when the modern sampler slot comes around again. Since I now know that these take two rotations, I'm planning on doing each one as the last round of one rotation and the first round of the next. Next up in the current rotation, though, will be Millennium, since it got skipped last time around.
I have a confession to make. After telling myself there would be no stash enhancement other than the Silver Needle Camp, I signed up for another online needlework class. It's free embroidery, not counted thread - a small 'taster' of the Bayeux Tapestry. It runs from October until March with monthly lessons. I haven't done a lot of non-counted thread embroidery. To tell you all the truth, I'm a bit intimidated by projects that don't tell you where to put your needle! Hopefully each lesson will be small enough that I can still work on my other projects around it!
In order to accommodate this project, I am expanding the rotation by one slot. This will be a slot for class projects and will be optional. That having been said, I have one UFO in the Waiting Pile that was a class (a Renaissance style sweetbag), the Silver Needle pieces that I don't get done at camp, and several un-started projects in the stash that were actually online classes where I only accumulated the instructions and materials. So "optional/temporary" may hang around for quite a while......
Last week, I promised a picture of my knitting. The lace shawl is about to start round 25 of the border. I'm managing to maintain my pace of one side a day (with an extra side at some point over the weekend). It is a snail's pace, but better than not working on it at all.
You can really see the diamond background now, and this is the mid point of the second motif. I was planning on putting this project back into hibernation when I hit the end of the first chart (round 30), but I have a good momentum built up and I'm still enjoying the process, so I think I'll keep going. Plus it's still hot here in Kansas and I am not yet ready for a lap full of heavy wool. (ETA: 8/24 - had a request for a test knit come in, so will indeed hibernate this at the end of Chart 1.)
Please drop by Kathy's to see what the rest of the SSS crew is up to this week!

I think most of the Slow Sunday Stitching group members could make a few true confessions about our ufo’s And things not even started yet... your knitting and embroidery projects are so intricate!
ReplyDeleteIntricate tends to be my default setting, I'm afraid. The next slot in the rotation is back to Millennium, with all the blended threads and the entire page of color symbols. So no respite from the crazy LOL.
