Slow Sunday Stitching - April 19, 2020

Working from home continues.  I'm liking not having that 90 minutes one way eating into my days! The yard is getting the lion's share of my time and attention as spring has flirted it's way into Kansas (but we had snow this week, so she's not decided to stay quite yet.)  Our last frost date is today - 4/19, so I'm hopeful that we have seen the last of winter - finally.   On the other hand, one year we had snow on the first of May, but that set a record.

The Victoria Sampler piece is coming right along.  I'm on Bands 12/13.  Actually Band 12 is done (the cross stitch borders in perle cotton, with Band 13 halfway done - the eyelets are finished, but the Rhodes Stitch butterflies are just underway (and SO cute!), with antennae in the dark silk and lemon beads on the top of each pyramid of eyelets yet to come.

I put a bit of time into my son's USMC seal this week - a little over three squares of 100 stitches each.  I went back and fixed the "A" just by stitching a navy stitch right over the misplaced white stitch and vice versa - with over one, I don't frog unless I absolutely have to.
I had about a half hour delay in picking up my grocery order on Wednesday, so Lucy came out to play this week - I have all the pieces basted for Block 7 now.
I don't know when I'll get started on the assembly, though.

My sewing machine time has been masks and more masks.  I have five more promised to people, so that will be this afternoon's "not so slow" Sunday stitching after online church.   I'm getting kind of tired of making masks, but there is a need, so I'll keep on making them.

  1. I have not had more ask for masks so I think my family two hours from me has found other sources thank goodness as making mask for them involves a trip to the post office also. I do plan to make more for us and our girls and I will need to make a trip to the post office to send some off to one of the girls and family - it is not something I enjoy making either. I didn't realize you had such a long commute to work when you go - that will be hard to get back into I bet

    1. I live in Topeka and work in the KC metro. My job moved there in 2010, so I'm used to it. I do have carpool opportunities occasionally, which is nice when I don't drive.

I have discovered that a single mask will fit in a business sized envelope with one stamp. My postman is nice and picks up the occasional letter. I offered him a mask, but his daughter has made him several. One of the requests is for a co-worker's husband who is also a postal worker. I don't mind doing them, but I'd rather be assembling a quilt! I have two now that all the blocks are done and just need to go together.

  2. Oh my such delicate hand work. It's beautiful! We had snow here in Ohio last week. I'm hoping it is on its way out and away from here. Bring on the sun. I am in mask making mode after virtual church today. I have only made one, but all three of my SILs now need them for their jobs and daily travels to their jobs.

  3. Beautiful stitching. We have been having some warm days and I have been trying to tackle my overgrown gardens. It's overcast today, and cooler, so don't know if I will be able to get out or not. Happy stitching!

  4. It must be fun playing with Lucy. Your Victorian Sampler is exquisite. Hopefully spring will stop flirting with you and come to stay.
