It's winter here in Kansas. The forecast is for high temperatures in the teens: 19 to 21 F (around -6 C) and nighttime lows around -6 F (-21 C) later this week. My poor Thanksgiving cactus is quite confused. I moved it to the other side of the bay window and it has set flowers for the first time. There are close to a dozen buds of various sizes and they look like they are going to be the palest of pink/white. Quite lovely and I don't mind at all that it is four months late!
I put in six inches on the sock yarn blanket this week, in part due to an hour long "state of the company" annual video meeting where only the presenters were 'on screen'. Side 2 of Round 8. No photo because it's just more garter stitch - endless 20 stitches of garter stitch, turn, 20 stitches of garter, attach. Repeat ad infinitum.
Dutch Beauty is at around 8 hours in this round. This week I finished the bottom border for this page and got SO CLOSE to finishing the vase for the big fritillaria bouquet on the left side of the bottom row.
I'll try to get the handles done after I check out the rest of the SSS crew (link to the current round up). And I'll be over here trying to stay warm...... And watching my Chiefs in the Superbowl AGAIN!
I have a Christmas cactus that doesn't bloom at Christmas. It bloomed last October into November and now it's starting again. I have other cactus that bloom in December so I'm glad for the variety. Your cutwork is so beautiful! I've always wanted to try some of that type of applique but just haven't gotten there yet. Enjoy your cross stitching this evening during the superbowl!
ReplyDeleteI have two, the other one is quite small, a start off of my late mother's huge one. It has bloomed once for me in a bright fuchsia pink. I'm thinking about moving it over to this side of the window to see if it's the light quality that makes a difference.
DeleteMy Christmas cactus has not bloomed in years. I put it outside this past summer hoping that would encourage it to bloom, but no luck. So nice to have lots of different handwork projects, especially at this time of year. Maybe there will be flowers in the urn on Dutch Beauty by next week.
ReplyDeleteI would love to get to the flowers, so I think I'll put in some extra time on this one before I put it away for this rotation.
DeleteYour sewing is lovely. My poor cactus was looking very sorry for itself last year but I managed to make a few baby plants from it and they all seem to be thriving, I have no idea when they'll flower though. Enjoy your stitching.
ReplyDeleteThose cactuses are pretty no matter when they bloom! I like your applique block, too. Those look complicated to me, since I'm just an applique novice! We're rooting for the Chiefs from here in Colorado, too. You have to love Patrick Mahomes!
ReplyDeleteGreat applique and stitching! I put my Christmas cactus outside and it seems to be doing pretty good, about to bloom.
ReplyDeleteI’ve given up on Christmas cacti. I think I’m the only person who can kill one very quickly every single time. Enjoy!
