First of all, sorry for missing last week's round up (current round up is here). The summer doldrums have set in hard. The garden needs daily attention, work is in the last few days before my big annual project is due, and my thumb is taking it's own sweet time healing (probably because I keep trying to knit before it's fully back to normal).
I have the body of the Brown Yoke Sweater cast on, the ribbing done and the first few round of the (apparently endless) stocking stitch underway. The in-progress round is one inch from the end of the ribbing. But since I can't even knit one round without having to rest my thumb, it's very slow going at this point.I am at the next check in on the Sugar Skull, though. There's a nose! I also have the bridge of the nose up past the page break, with the next steps to get both side 'temple' areas past that row too.
Decided on my next 'historic' project. I am trying to do one of the Loose Feathers kits for every other project in the Historic slot, so it's time for a Blackbird Design piece. I've picked #34 "Two Hearts" to do next.
I want to do the version with just the hearts in hand, no lettering or background, and I want to finish it as a needlebook. On the 30 count kit fabric with a 1 inch margin per the instructions, though, it would be 5 x 7 inches (12.7 x 17.7 cm). That's a bit large for what I want. On 28 one over one with a slightly smaller margin it's 3.75 wide x 4.5 high (9.5 x 11.5 cm), which is much more reasonable. So I'm going to sub out the fabric. I have a piece of 'natural' linen in the stash that would work, or maybe I'll order some 56 count (one over two). I have been wanting to try it and I'd rather not have two 'over one' projects going at the same time. The purpose of a rotation is to have several different types and counts to keep things fresh.
I'll keep the kit fabric for doing a section of the 'mystery' sampler. (Which is now revealed to be "Heart and Home Patchwork" in A Heart Remembers published 2022. I haven't bought the book (yet) because I have all the originally published pieces.)
Great projects, I always have loved Blackbird Designs.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear your thumb is giving you so much trouble. You are a beautiful knitter. I wish I could come for a lesson or two! The sugar skull gets more interesting as you add more colours. Gail at the Cozy Quilter
ReplyDeleteThe sugar skull is looking great! I like your choice for your needle book. I hope your thumb starts feeling better so you can make quicker progress on your knitting. Rest is best for thumbs.
ReplyDeleteKnitting must surely be difficult with a damaged thumb, do hope it heals up quickly for you.
