BRRR - Kansas is in the grip of an arctic blast. The HIGH today is forecast to be 0 degrees F / -17.75 C. I don't care what measuring stick you use, that's COLD. It's going to be like that for several days, too. It's hibernate and stitch weather.
I got the January section of the Birdhouses SAL #octtooctsal finished this week (link to that post), so I'm on to working on the Sugar Skull. I still have about four or so hours of work (28 stitches per inch is slow), but that's do-able over the course of a week, so finger's crossed for a finish post soon.
Here's a close up of the eyes to show that I did finish two of the three colors so far - a one stitch rim of the darkest green around the outside of the eyeball and two rounds of the medium around the pink flowers. Doesn't look like all that much, but just those two colors are over 500 stitches! All that remains is just the lightest green that's the same as the nose to fill in between. On the knitting front, the charity hat is at the start of the crown decreases, so hopeful for a finish soon there as well. I'm in finish mode for certain - I got the materials for my two WIPGO "finish and frame" projects and I'm going to take breaks from Sugar Skull stitching today to work on getting at least the base of the pin cube done.
Linking up with the SSS crew. Stay warm (or cool as your location requires) everybody!
ETA: WIPGO square #22 is done. I have laid out and marked all the sides on my matboard and cut the top and bottom pieces. They are ever so slightly smaller than the sides since they have to fit inside the cube made up of the four sides. I have also covered the bottom square without any batting under the fabric for a stable base. The fabric is pine green solid - it more or less matches the darkest foilage color in the needlework. I chose a dark fabric to minimize visible wear; this is a glorified pin cushion, after all.
I'm debating if I want to put feet on this project (pony beads, wooden balls, tiny wooden cubes, the fancy cartonnage metal feet - lots of options).
This is such a colourful project! I could not stitch something so small…my eyes could not see it! Very cold here too. I’m off to shovel the driveway. Stay warm. Gail at the Cozy Quilter.
ReplyDeleteSugar Skull is looking beautiful! Great work!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what a difference it makes when you fill in those eyes with the green! I clicked over to see yourbirdhouse, too - so pretty. Have a wonderful Sunday of stitching!
ReplyDeleteI love watching your progress on the Sugar Skull. I will miss it once you are finished which looks like it will be quite soon. Try to stay warm. We are heading into an Artic chill here also.
ReplyDeleteFascinating close-up on the Sugar Skull - wow, I would need major magnifiers and bright light to do such tiny work. Good for you!
