Set up
- Same number of stitches on each needle - front (F) and back (B)
- Needle tips face to the right, yarn end coming from the back needle, rightmost side.
- Yarn length = 3 times length to the grafted plus 8-12 inches
- Blunt Tapestry Needle
Starting
Do not remove starting stitches from the needle until starting the actual grafting (below)
If first stitch to be grafted is a KNIT
Thread yarn into 1st stitch on the front needle as if to purl, then into the 1st stitch on the back needle as if to knit
If first stitch to be grafted is a PURL
Thread yarn into 1st stitch on the front needle as if to knit, then into the 1st stitch on the back needle as if to purl
Stockinette Grafting (2 or more K stitches on the front)
F: Knit off, Purl on
B: Purl off, Knit on
Reverse Stockinette Grafting (2 or more P stitches on the front)
F: Purl off, Knit on
B: Knit off, Purl on
1 x 1 Ribbing (1K, 1P)
F: Knit off, Knit on
B: Knit off, Purl on
Finishing
- Do F step one on the front needle, slip stitch off, then do B step one on the back needle and slip off
- Adjust tension
- Weave in ends
