The last minute Christmas crafting rush. Did I say I wouldn't have one this year? I lied. My sister reminded me that I'd promised her something. Oops. Yarn has been acquired. She may be getting a 'promissory note'. This won't be the first time I've wrapped up a work in progress and took it back to finish between Christmas and Epiphany. I figure as long as it gets to the giftee by the last of the twelve days of Christmas, I'm still in technical compliance LOL.
And Alexis (who is a gymnast) is changing gyms and I was tasked with removing all the logos from her gear bag - an approximate 2 linear feet of very tight quarter inch wide machine satin stitch..... Can we say tedious?
But before all that broke, I did make good progress on my 'real' projects. The second sock leg is done and the heel flaps on both socks are set up with the first sock's heel flap at the half way point.
The Sweetbag is done other than the eyelets, running the cording and adding the already completed tassels. The lining turned out pretty well, though I didn't get the pattern matched at the seams. It's a lining, I'm fine with that.
Side note, the fabric behind those last few photos is a handwoven lace table runner. It was being ironed to put on the Christmas table and I thought it would make a pretty background. I wove it in the late 1970s on my Leclerc 4 harness floor loom.
Off to find my crochet hooks and get started on my sister's gift. We'll see how well it goes.

Oh my, I do love that table runner. The Sweetbag is so pretty. I feel your pain with the logo removal. Wow! Good luck with the last-minute gift.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I would really like to get my loom set back up, but it is going to need some maintenance and repairs before I can use it again.
DeleteI think we all promise ourselves that, this year, we have everything made ahead of time and not be rushing at the last minute to get our gifts made....just never seems to work out that way! Someday, I would like to learn to make socks. Unsewing is not my favourite task, but it looks like you are finished now! Have fun with your crochet project.
ReplyDeleteYes, Alexis had her first class at the new gym Saturday afternoon, so I finished it up in time for her to use it then. Having a good gear bag with all your wraps, chalk and such is (according to A) "IMPORTANT, Mimi" LOL.
DeleteYour handwoven table runner is beautiful! And such pretty socks!
ReplyDeletethanks! for being plain grey socks, they are coming out well, I think.
DeleteYour table runner is beautiful, and what a mess of threads! The work on your sock looks lovely! Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeletethank you. And I'm still finding blue thread all over - it was a fluffy mess! But it's done now.
DeleteAll your work is lovely the sweet bag is so cute and I love your socks, thank you for the hat suggestion I'll look up the pattern. Good luck on the last minute gift I'm sure you'll get it finished in time. Have a lovely Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI'm under the same nickname "Threadbndr" on Rav if you want to see the hats that I made with the LOSY hat pattern. Link in the side bar, too. You're welcome, hope the hat pattern works for you!
DeleteYikes....that is a lot of logo removal! It sounds as if those fingers of yours will be working to the bone right up to Christmas. Goodness me, what a beautiful job you did on the woven table runner. It is beautiful and so elegant. Such a pretty design on the little bag. It must have taken a while to stitch this pretty.
ReplyDeleteRe the sweetbag, it wasn't bad once I got back into it, really. It hibernated for a long time before I got the nerve to do all the detached buttonhole. But lots of stitches for such a small piece, for sure.
DeleteYour projects are so pretty, Karla. I have always wanted to learn how to knit - it is on my bucket list and your table runner is gorgeous. Merry Christmas
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, a hand woven lace runner, so beautiful and such an impressive achievement!
ReplyDeleteDont you hate unpicking! But it's done now good on you for persevering with this job.
Hi Karla, I love your sweetbag. Is it called that because it looks sweet or is supposed to be full of sweets? It's very lovely. I used to weave and am looking forward to retirement (1 year,10 months, 5 days!) when I can take my 15 inch loom out again. I would love to weave to incorporate weaving into my art. Your lace runner is a beauty! Good luck with your sister's project. Take care.
ReplyDeleteSweetbags come from Elizabethan England. They were used to hold small gifts of coin or sweets and sometimes worn filled with herbs to ward off bad smells. Historic needlework is a wonderful rabbit hole to wander down LOL. I'm getting on towards retirement myself and getting time to do all of the projects that I want to do is definitely a good reason to be looking forward to it!
DeleteI ALWAYS have a last minute christmas crafting rush! It just can't be helped!
ReplyDeleteLove the bag, very pretty
