I was in the mood this week for a 'comfort' read, and an Agatha Christie mystery was just the ticket.
This is one of the later entries in the Hercule Poirot series, where he is lured out of retirement (again - as he admits he is like a diva taking multiple 'swan song' final performances). The mystery itself is fascinating serial killer puzzle and I was surprised by the final reveal.
The reader for this audio book was Hugh Fraser, who played Captain Hastings in the 1980-2013 series "Agatha Christie's Poriot" (link to Wikipedia article). Since a lot of the narration in the books is from Hastings' point of view, it flowed very well. There was one small glitch in the recording - frustratingly right in the middle of Poirot's big 'reveal' at the end, but I'm sure that was only due to YouTube. And you can't argue with free LOL
Fraser did an excellent job of the class and regional accents in the recording, giving a reasonably unique "voice" to each person while not sounding overly campy or twee with them. It must be difficult for a narrator to voice the opposite gender, but this recording was very effective with that in particular.
Several uploads on YouTube.
